[ anyone who knows elmott for long enough knows that he's not cut out for teaching, at least, not in the traditional sense. he has the face of a gangster and the mouth of a sailor, feeling more at home in ripped shorts and a tank than in slacks and a button up. but anyone who has known him for that long also knows that he's always been surprisingly good with kids despite his gruff demeanor, able to connect with even the rowdiest of students and bringing their grades up to passing. no one really knows how he does it and neither does he, but then, he didn't exactly think he'd actually end up being a high school chemistry teacher in the first place. life just enjoys throwing shit at him from time to time and he has no choice but to roll with the punches.
as much as he complains and yells at his students, elmott does care for them in his own way. which is why he's still in his classroom on a friday long after class has been left out, working on next week's lesson plan while writing up progress reports to turn into the dean later. he's always dreaded the paperwork part of teaching the most, dropping his pen on top of the stack of papers as he leans back in his chair, kicking his feet up on the desk with a deep sigh.
